Hello GSpot

TELCO company GSpot Telecoms has opened its first retail shop in Lismore.

The company has given new jobs to three sales consultants, two of them former Telstra call centre workers from the Goonellabah site about to close on October 23.

General manager Peter Winen explained that the company was considering opening their first shop in Grafton, but after the announcement of Telstra's call centre closing this month here, the decision was to move the project to Lismore.

Located in the Lismore Arcade and open since this week, the company offers residential and business Telco products such as fixed lines, broadband internet and mobile solutions from both Optus and Telstra.

"Our customers can call us and speak to one of our consultants face to face here or over the phone, and that means they will be not only in Australia, but in Lismore, to answer their questions and help them," Mr Wienen said.

"If Lismore prefers us as their Telco provider we will be offering more jobs to locals. We will grow with the community," he said.

Current and former Telstra workers at the Goonellabah call centre will meet for the last time this weekend in Lismore to mark their last week of operations.

Local MP Janelle Saffin explained that "Some people have got jobs already here, some are relocating. There are over 50 that are still looking for work and hoping to stay here. Some others are choosing to do some retraining or studies."

A jobs expo will be held tomorrow at the Goonellabah Sports Centre for the Telstra workers whose call centre will be closing next week.

The expo will be open to general public in the afternoon.
