Heart too hot for Perth Glory

MELBOURNE Heart attacker David Williams scored his second winner in two weeks as his resurgent team recorded a 2-1 victory over the Perth Glory in Albury yesterday.

His impressive effort came in the 82nd minute, when he sprinted on to a Ben Garuccio pass and outjumped Glory goalkeeper Danny Vukovic to head the ball into the net.

It was also his 12th goal for the red and whites, equalling the club record set by former Heart player Eli Babalj.

The win was the last-placed Melbourne outfit's second in consecutive weeks in 40-degree temperatures - the game was delayed by two hours because of the extreme heat - and its third from its past four games.

It looked as though the visitors could have run away with the game after Steve McGarry equalised at 1-all in the 73rd minute, following a goalmouth scramble from a corner kick, before Williams's late heroics.

The hosts scored first in the 51st minute from another corner through Patrick Kisnorbo, heading a pinpoint cross from Iain Ramsay home.

The Heart will now take on an equally desperate Phoenix team that sits in sixth place, at Westpac Stadium on Sunday.
