Head injuries suffered in crash

A 17-month-old girl was rushed to Mater Children's Hospital in Brisbane after a serious car collision on Tweed Valley Way this morning.

Paramedics transported the girl and her 30-year-old mother to the Tweed Hospital with head injuries then to Brisbane.

The accident occurred about 4km south of Murwillumbah when the sedan they were travelling in collided with a van at 9.20am this morning.

The van driver escaped with minor injuries and was transported to Murwillumbah Hospital.

It was the second major accident in the Tweed this morning with three people transported to hospital after a two-car accident on Tweed Valley Way near Tumbulgum.

The two-car accident occurred about 7.40am with three taken to hospital.

Tweed Ambulance station officer Leon Cribb said three ambulances were required at each accident and it was a busy morning for crews.
