Gunns deal

Approximately 5000 hectares of timber plantations in Northern NSW that were managed by Great Southern Timber Corporation before they went into receivership last year have been taken over by the Tasmanian forestry giant Gunns.

Growers in all nine of Great Southern’s managed investment schemes have now agreed to the deal put forward by Gunns, which represents about 1.75 million hectares of land around Australia. Gunns will pay nearly $9 million to buy land, licences and equipment and invest about $100 million altogether.

It is believed the timber plantations on the North Coast will be wood chipped for the overseas market.
