Griffith voters back to the polls after Rudd's resignation

VOTERS in Kevin Rudd's electorate of Griffith will go to the polls on February 8 for the first by-election since the Federal Election.  

Speaker Bronwyn Bishop on Monday issued writs for the by-election, which will be a key test for the Abbott Government since taking office last September.  

The former Prime Minister's LNP opponent at the recent election, Dr Bill Glasson has already confirmed he will stand in the by-election and is seen as a likely favourite to win the seat.  

Official nominations for the ballot will be completed by Friday January 17, with the return of writs expected by April 16, before the parliament resumes sittings.
