Greenmount crash charges aired in court

THE driver of a car involved in an horrific crash near Greenmount that left a woman with serious injuries had charges against him mentioned before Toowoomba Magistrates Court yesterday.

Blair Robert Stratford, 29, of Plainland, was not in court for the brief mention of his matters which were adjourned to next month.

He has not as yet been required to enter pleas to charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing grievous bodily harm while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance and driving while under the influence of liquor or a drug.

Police claim the Mitsubishi sedan he was driving on the night of July 6 last year allegedly crossed over to the wrong side of the road and collided head on with another vehicle carrying four women and a man.

It is believed the group in the other car was from the Stanthorpe area.

After impact, the Mitsubishi sedan continued on and for some 100m before crashing into a power police, causing the pole to crack, police investigators claimed.

Solicitor Phil Stainton, acting as agent for Stratford's legal representatives from MacDonald Law, told the court the defence had received the police brief of evidence.

However, solicitors had not yet gone through the brief with Stratford and asked for an adjournment.

Magistrate Graham Lee therefore remanded Stratford on bail and adjourned the case for mention back in the same court on August 26.
