Green Team digs deep

A new ‘Green Team’ has been employed by EnviTE for a six-month project that will involve works at the Lismore Rainforest Botanical Garden, Nimbin Rocks and the EnviTE nursery at Goonellabah.

Ten young people aged 17-24 will be involved in building two bridges and an edged walking track at the botanical garden, a composting toilet at Nimbin Rocks as well as carrying out community tree planting and doing some survey work for Lismore Council. The group will also build Indian Myna traps and cane toad traps, and wildlife nesting boxes for WIRES.

Participants will complete the six-month project with accredited qualifications in First Aid, Certificate I in Conservation and Land Management, and a Statement of Attainment at Certificate II level.

“This program gives young people the opportunity to participate in community projects that give them real skills, training and qualifications, and work experience that employers are looking for but is often difficult, if not impossible, for them to attain,” EnviTE co-ordinator Bill Samson said.
