Grant for garden-savvy grommets

NORTH Coast kids will be getting their hands dirty, in a good way, thanks to a $4320 grant for Growing the Northern Rivers.

Secretary of the North Coast National A&I Society, Janelle Hancock, said that the Go Green Grant would give kids a hands-on opportunity to learn about sustainable food production.

"This is an amazing opportunity to connect our young people with where food comes from and showcase the importance of farming life in our quest to celebrate Australian Year of the Farmer," she said.

The project aims to implement garden plots in local schools and address issues such as food security, water conservation and biodiversity.
