Updated 4.42pm: POLICE have located a man who disappeared during last month's flood. The man was found in the Byron Bay CBD. He is reported to be fit and well.

Initial report 1.42pm: Grave fears are still held for Charl Viviers who disappeared during last month's devastating floods.

Today a police spokesman confirmed the 29-year-old man was still missing.

On Thursday, January 31, the man's Ford Falcon was found abandoned on a flooded causeway at Byrangery Creek, Repentance Creek, in the Byron hinterland.

Police said the driver of the car may have tried to cross the causeway when his car possibly stalled.

"Several inquiries have been made to locate the owner of the vehicle, 29-year-old Charl Viviers in NSW and Queensland without success..." a police statement said.

"Police do have concerns for his welfare as he requires regular medication and many of his belongings remain in the vehicle."

Mr Viviers is Caucasian with a fair complexion and slim build.

He has short dark hair and a beard.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is urged to contact Byron Bay Police or Crime Stoppers on 1 800 333 000 immediately.
