Good roll out for botanic gardens

Around 50 people turned up to explore the Lismore Rainforest Botanic Gardens at its first open day on Sunday, much to the delight of the people who have given hundreds of hours of time to make the gardens a reality.

“We were thrilled to find people so interested and excited about what we have so far achieved,” chief organiser Margaret Smith said. “We had no idea who knew about us and who, if any, would want to come along on a hottish December morning to have a look.

“It was a great morning and beyond our wildest expectations,” she said. “It makes all the hard work worthwhile and encourages us to be even more determined to overcome any remaining obstacles and get the gardens open to the public on a regular, if at first limited, basis as soon as possible.”

The Friends of the Lismore Rainforest Botanic Gardens are always looking for more volunteers to swell their ranks and bring new energy and muscle to the gardens. If you’re interested in helping out or want more information, phone Pat on 6629 1435.
