PRIME Minister Julia Gillard says she has no intention of speaking with Alan Jones after the shock jock said her father died of shame.

Mr Jones said on Sunday he had tried to contact Ms Gillard to apologise for his off-the-cuff remarks to a Young Liberals function at Sydney University.

But Ms Gillard, speaking for the first time since the broadcaster's comments were made public, said she would not be taking Mr Jones's calls.

Nor would she again appear on the influential broadcaster's high-rating 2GB program.

But that was the extent of Ms Gillard's comments on the matter as she fronted the media in Tasmania ahead of a community Cabinet meeting.

Ms Gillard opened her press conference indicating she had no intention of talking about the controversy, a line she later repeated in deflecting six related questions from journalists.

But she did thank the people who had shown their support in the wake of John Gillard's death more than two weeks ago.

"Both I and my family have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support for us since the death of my father," Ms Gillard said.

"From the bottom of my heart, I would like to thank Australians in their tens of thousands who have been so warm and so supportive at what has been a very difficult time for us."

Meanwhile, an online petition at calling on 2GB to sack Mr Jones had attracted more than 103,400 supporters late on Wednesday.
