THE German men's eight rowing crew has affirmed its superiority after winning gold in the final at the London Olympics.

The current world champions were chased all the way by Canada and Great Britain, but the Germans showed their class in the final quarter, pulling away to win in a time of 5:48.75.

The host nation showed great fight in chasing the Germans, but all their efforts left them exposed to the Canadians who snared their quarry and a silver medal.

The Australian crew finished in sixth place.
