Fresh farm produce right on your smart phone

TWEED Growers Farm Fresh Produce is trying something new with their business.

Apps for phones and tablets are getting more and more popular with all ages, there are some amazing ones that allow you to do anything from entertaining you to making your life more efficient.

Tweed Growers is a long-established business in the Tweed Heads South and owner Grant Cook said he wanted to challenge the way things had always been done.

"I've been involved in fruit and veg my whole life. There's ways things are generally done in this industry that have been done for years, everyone does the exact same thing," Mr Cook said.

"I saw everyone getting these apps and there's no reason fruit and veg can't have this, it's a convenience."

The Tweed Growers app on Machinery drive have brought out a new app that allows you to do many things, making your life easier when it comes to finding when the best specials and ordering fruit for pick-up.
The ordering side of the app is just a small part and Mr Cook said it was a good way to build communication with the community.

When Mr Cook has any specials they will be posted on the app's main screen as a notification so customers don't miss out and he gains a business advantage.

For example on Monday, Mr Cook posted trays of smoothie mangos for only $5.

Mr Cook said this lets him clear out stock, saving wastage as well as giving the customers a good chance to get some good deals without having to check into the shop every day.

There is also a rewards system. in place to try and promote the use of the app with your 10th purchase giving you $20 to put towards you next purchase.

With creating a new approach to fruit and vege shopping Mr Cook's Tweed Growers app is a great addition.

Mr Cook began assisting management at Tweed Growers five years ago, before going on to buy the business two years ago.

He was named Young Entrepreneur of the Year at the 2013 Northern Rivers Business Awards.
