Free info session on cane toads

One hundred and one cane toads were released into the Queensland cane fields at Gordonvale in 1935 as a biological control for the cane beetles that were destroying crops at that time. Of course the toads weren’t even slightly interested in the cane bugs and the climate in Australia was perfectly suited for them to go forth and multiply and they now pose a major environmental threat to many native animals all over Australia.

Next Thursday, April 22, Lismore City Library and National Parks and Wildlife are hosting a free cane toad information and awareness session that they promise will teach you everything you need to know about cane toads in 45 minutes. It starts at 5.30pm.
