EARLY morning walkers along Ocean Pde were bemused by the start they saw to the New Year.

A police chase of four men ended in the quartet being caught near the Vincent St intersection and taken into custody.

The arrests are in relation to an alleged armed hold up of a Hood St residence earlier this morning.

The occupants of the address gave a good description to police of the four offenders who threatened them with violence demanding cash and before leaving the premises with about $80 in cash and coins.

Police began a wide sweep of the area before spotting the men running away at Park Beach.

The four men are currently assisting police with their inquiries.
