Former Titans player robs couple

A TEENAGE couple was enjoying an afternoon on a park bench in Brisbane's botanical gardens when a former Titans under 16 squad player robbed them of $90.

Carl William Sedgwick Bloomfield, 17, was on a one-month crime spree in the city's CBD, having also robbed a convenience store with a Stanley knife in hand, for cigarettes and tobacco, and bashed a bottle shop attendant, dislocating his jaw, when he would not serve him.

Judge Brian Devereaux said the former Titans under 16 squad player had committed the "kind of offences people in the community loathe".

He said people should be able to work and enjoy parklands without bullying and threats.

Defence barrister Colin Reid said his client had left school after a family death and ended up living with street kids in Brisbane.

He said time spent in custody underlined to Bloomfield where his life was heading if he continued on this path.

Bloomfield was sentenced to 18 months jail, to be released on parole after he has served eight months.

He has already served 151 days behind bars.

Rosanna has designs on female taboo

Artist Rosanna Pimm uses 3500 porcelain tampons to created her large scale performance installation Riots of Passage in The Quad as part of The Lismore Women's Festival on International Women's Day. Laying down and de-constructing the mandala structure symbolises the impermanence of the menstrual cycle and an end to female inequality in the world.
