Firefighter collapsed battling blaze

UPDATE: The firefighter who collapsed while battling a blaze on Clark and Swendson Rd is back on duty.

A combination of dehydration and smoke inhalation was the cause of the accident yesterday on the scene.

Firefighters around the region are on high alert today and tomorrow.

SATURDAY: A firefighter collapsed while battling flames at a Kingaroy property on Saturday.

He was engulfed in plumes of smoke while attempting to douse flames on the Clark and Swendson St property just before 2pm.

It is suspected he suffered from smoke inhalation with an ambulance arriving on the scene soon after.

Fire crews had a hard time containing the flames as strong gusts of winds picked up embers, starting several small fires on properties across the road within metres of homes.

Three urban fire crews and five Rural Fire crews responded to the fire and were able to extinguish the fire at about 2.30pm.
