Fire survivor charged with murder

A 43-YEAR-OLD woman who escaped from a burning unit in Brisbane's south, where her husband was later found dead, has been charged with murder and arson, according to police.

The woman was charged at a bedside hearing at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital where she is being treated for severe burns.

Authorities found yesterday the body of the man, marine skipper Kenji Suda, in the gutted unit.

His wife, Sakura, remains in hospital with serious burns to her legs, arms and hands.

Emergency services were called to the blaze in a two-storey duplex on Persse Road, Runcorn, about 9.45pm on Tuesday. Neighbours said they heard screaming and cries for help.
