Fifty Shades fans crazy for sex toys

EVER since Samantha from Sex and the City mentioned the "rabbit", adult stores have been selling them like hotcakes.

And, according to Love Hearts Adult Store operations manager Ross McGlone, the novel, Fifty Shades of Grey by EL James, is causing quite the increase in sales of toys mentioned in the racy series.

Women who have joined the erotic romance fad sweeping the world are not only want to read about it, they want a taste of it for themselves.

Fifty Shades of Grey was released on April 5 and has since knocked both Harry Potter and Twilight from the top of the bestseller list with the crack of a leather paddle.

"We've been selling this type of book forever, but this one is being promoted as a mainstream bestseller and it has really taken off," Mr McGlone said.

"There are a lot of toys named in it, so people are coming in looking for specific things mentioned in the book.

"We stock the books here, but we don't sell so many of those because people can grab them at Big W.

"You certainly can't get the toys at Big W though, so we get the overflow."

Mr McGlone said he could always tell when something has had a mention in mainstream media because he would notice a sudden demand for specific items.
