Female teacher barred for post-graduation sex with student

A FEMALE teacher who started a sexual relationship with a male student, after he graduated from high school has been told she's a danger to children and not fit to enter the classroom.

The teacher, whose identity has been suppressed by the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT) in order to protect the identity of the young man involved, taught the boy in years 10, 11 and 12.

During his two final years, in 2015 and 2016 the teacher had conversations with the boy which QCAT member Michelle Howard described in her decision as "overly familiar".

However, it was not until January 2017 - months after the boy left school - that a sexual relationship began.

The teacher had been registered for about five years when the relationship began.

QCAT heard she asked other teachers, who she had told about the relationship, not to disclose it.

During the hearing into the matter the teacher declined to make any case as to why was does not pose an unacceptable risk to young people.

This left Ms Howard with no choice but to continue the teachers' suspension.
