Feds told if they want second Sydney airport they can pay

A STOUSH is brewing between the New South Wales and Federal Governments over the proposed second Sydney airport with the state claiming it will not contribute any money to build the critical road and rail links.

NSW Premier Barry O'Farrell's newly appointed western Sydney lieutenant Stuart Ayres issued the blunt warning on Thursday  to Prime Minister Tony Abbott.

"My clear message to the Federal Government is that they are completely and wholly responsible for this decision and if they want an airport in western Sydney, they must build the infrastructure too," he said.

"And I will be very, very clear about this. An airport in western Sydney without any enabling infrastructure will be a catastrophic disaster and I would be amazed if any person in western Sydney supported it."

The proposed second Sydney airport at Badgerys Creek has been in the pipeline for more than two decades.
