Schneider and Dickfos families to mark 150 years in Qld

NEXT month marks a special time for many families - 150 years since the arrival of the Schneider and Dickfos families in Queensland.

A family reunion will be held in the Harrisville School of Arts from 10.30am on August 8.

The reunion will be preceded by a short service at the sight of Johann Schneider's grave at Greys Plains Rd.

Extended families include Lobegeiger, Henselin, Henrichsen, Lawrence and others connected through these lines.

Johann Dickfos arrived at Moreton Bay with his second wife Dorothea Runge, and their five children on the ship Cesar Godeffroy on February 14 1866 and the family settled in Coleyville.

Johann Christian Friedrich Dickfos (trade labourer) was born on July 15, 1816 in Gerswalde, Prussia.

Johann Christian Friedrich Dickfos was married in 1842 at Gerswalde, Templin to Johanna Friedrika Maria Christiana Rieck.

They had one child - a son - named Johann Friedrich August Dickfos, who was born at Gerswalde on December 28, 1842. Johanna died soon after her son was born.

In 1844 Johann Christian Friedrich Dickfos remarried to Dorethea Runge, daughter of David Runge, labourer and Annie Catherine Cronow.

Johann Dickfos died on September 24, 1894 from influenza. Both he and Dorethea are buried in Coleyville cemetery. The children all joined in the farming with their parents.

Johan George Schneider and his wife and family came to Queensland on the Sophie, leaving Hamburg in Germany on April 22, 1865 and arriving in Brisbane on August 17, 1865.

Johan George Schneider, the son of Friedrich Schneider, was born at Ellhoffen, Germany in 1811 and died on April 4, 1878 at Franklyn Vale.

On May 10, 1836 at Wurtenburg he married Hienricke Margarethe Lauer. When the German settlers arrived they tended to group together, and they married within their community. For more information phone Kathy Faithful on 0428 955 798.
