Fair crack of the hick

World Fair Trade Day will be celebrated around the world on Saturday with Lismore joining in on the action.

Jimmy Willing & The Real Gone Hick-Ups, Black Train and other hillbilly bandits (and singing dogs) will be rounded up onto a stage in Carrington Street. There will also be cooking demonstrations and displays of Fairtrade food and coffee.

Organiser Bill Sheaffe from Caddies said consumers who choose Fairtrade products are helping over five million farmers and their families around the world. Fairtrade products ensure that producers are paid a fair price and don’t use slave labour.

Lismore city centre manager Stephen Nelson is also involved in the event and said it will be the first in a series of free events to be held in the city centre on Saturdays, with the aim of attracting people to the CBD on weekends throughout the year.

It all kicks off from 12.30pm.
