IT'S been described as the online garage sale.
But who would have thought the social media platform that was once known for finding your old school friends and telling the world what you were doing would be the best way for people to sell their secondhand clothes, home-made head bands and retro clothing?
Recently the social media site Facebook has been used as a tool for those wanting to sell items online.
Rockhampton local Laura Melhose's hobby of making floral headbands is now making her money as she sells them over Facebook.
But Laura said she never thought she would be making and selling these headbands for other girls.
"I made a headband for myself and a friend a few months ago for her formal," she said.
"After a while other people became interested so I started selling them over Facebook because it seemed like an easy way to get my product out there."
Laura said she has received a great amount of feedback from local girls and orders have been piling up.
"Because the girls can see photos of these headbands they know what they are paying for and it's a really easy way of communicating," she said.
Taylor Donpon, 19, is another who has used Facebook to sell her pre-loved clothing online for some extra money. "It's become really popular; lots of girls use Facebook to sell their unwanted clothes because you don't have to pay to sell your stuff like on eBay," she said.
"It's such an easy way to communicate because people can just comment on the photo of the item they want which makes this process so convenient."
Taylor even posted to women living in Melbourne and Thursday Island.
"I sold shoes, clothes and accessories and local girls organised a time to come around and pick up what they wanted for really cheap prices," she said.
Many businesses today have an online presence for Facebook.
The business has had more than 100 customers who use the method of PayPal to purchase their wanted items.
