Escape summer heat for a white winter in Inner Mongolia

Innter Mongolia is a winter wonderland of snow-covered grasslands, yurts, ice castles and Russian dolls. The region is actually in China. It has a Mongolian heart and Russian soul.

I travelled around from Manzhouli with a group of other Aussies. We toured the icy roads in a mini bus alont the 301 national freeway.

The shimmering golden sky morphed into a blanket of purple pink as we rolled through the ethereal wintery landscape of the Hulunbuir grasslands.

The countryside was a white blanket with spindly strands of straw-coloured grass thrusting through the snowy ground and puckled mounds of snow ringed in blue shadows.

Herds of cattle shivered in the snowy plains and distant windmills were silent sentinels in the otherworldly countryside.

Visiting Inner Mongolia is an adventure of a lifetime, especialy in winter.
