INDEPENDENT testing to determine the extent of mercury contamination in Sydney's south should be treated as a priority, says NSW Greens MP Cate Faehrmann.
News Ltd reported on the weekend that mining company Orica had mislead the public with its current pollution remediation plan on the former ChlorAlkali plant at Matraville.
Residents claimed the company attempted to blame a nearby crematorium and power station for high levels of pollution.
Monday afternoon five employees at Orica's Villawood site were treated by paramedics for dizziness, vomiting and nausea but refused hospital treatment.
The EPA will meet with Orica this week.
