England first through to cricket World Cup final

CRICKET: Host nation England have scraped into the Women's World Cup final after edging past South Africa in their semi-final with only two balls to spare.

With her side needing two runs with just three balls remaining, Anya Shrubsole found the boundary to seal a two-wicket win in Bristol.

South Africa had earlier set England a target of 219 with Laura Wolvaardt (66) and Mignon du Preez (76) leading the way.

Sarah Taylor (54) got England's run chase off to a good start before Jenny Gunn (27 not out) and Shrubsole dragged their team over the line.

England wicketkeeper Taylor said watching the final overs had been a nerve-wracking experience.

"That was a little bit too tense,” she said.

"It was not the most enjoyable experience (to watch from the balcony at the end), but we were up there and were still saying we could do this right until the end, we knew we had the depth in our batting and it was a great shot.

"We came into this tournament with no expectations really and to get through to the final is amazing. We could not be prouder of each other.”

England will face either Australia or India in the final at Lord's on Sunday.
