Eltham kids put up good argument

Students from Eltham, Bexhill, Blakebrook and Eureka Public Schools were given some tips to refine their debating skills this week in the lead-up to the regional championships which were held in Grafton on Tuesday.

Tony Davies and Pat Caldwell from the NSW Education Department's Performing Arts Unit were at Eltham on Monday working with the kids.

When The Echo arrived, two teams were debating the relative merits of school uniforms.

The students were given tips like leading with their best arguments, not using hypothetical situations, sticking to the facts and not making it personal.

At the regional championship Sean McCarthy from Alstonville Public School was selected to represent the North Coast along with four others from Uki, Brunswick Heads, Grafton and Laurieton. They will now compete in the Premier's Debating Challenge in Collaroy from November 23-25.
