YOUNG, vibrant, talented and beautiful, Elli Sundstrom of Casino is quite a catch and one of the most eligible lesbians in the nation.

But you don't have to take our word for it. That's the opinion of the publishers of the nation's pre-eminent lesbian lifestyle magazine Lesbians on the Loose.

Ms Sundstrom has been voted one of the nation's 15 most eligible bachelorettes in the magazine's Bachelorette of the Year competition out of more than 200 entries.

Now she's on the campaign trail, drumming up support and votes before the competition ends on February 25.

Ms Sundstrom, 25, acknowledged that going public about the competition when living and running a business in a country town presented some risks.

But for Ms Sundstrom entering was about confronting her fears, being a role model for younger lesbians and gays and having pride in her sexuality.

"There could be risks in the sense that I could lose business, I could have customers that are unaware that do have some issues regarding homosexuality," she said.

"But it is about putting myself out there and being completely honest with who I am and proud of who I am.

"I think I represent lesbians in a good way, I am proud, I don't hide it and I thought it was a challenge.

"We don't realise our full potential until we push ourselves."

Ms Sundstrom is passionate about wiping out homophobia, racism and animal cruelty.

"Homophobia is one of those things I will not stand for ... people's lives are affected by judgement and ignorance and hatred; people have such hatred for people and they don't even know them."

Voting closes February 25.
