Eli Waters man, 23, killed in crash at Mount Isa

AN ELI Waters man was killed when a ute crashed into a power pole on Old Mica Creek Rd near Mount Isa on Saturday.

The 23-year-old man was a passenger in the vehicle.

The 25-year-old Towers Hill man who was driving the vehicle was critically injured and taken to hospital, but died in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Emergency services had trouble accessing the scene as there were live wires on the ground as a result of the car crashing into the power pole.

According to the North West Star, it is believed the two men were among a group of vehicles travelling in a convoy returning to Mount Isa after a four-wheel driving adventure.

The two men were living and working in Mount Isa, according to the North West Star, but they were not locals.

Police investigations are continuing, with police speaking to witnesses who were part of the convoy and saw the crash.

The names of the two men have not been released by police.

Mount Isa Police District Inspector Trevor Kidd described the tragedy as a "senseless waste".

The fatal crash took Queensland's Easter road toll to six.
