Easier diabetes tests for regional Australians

A NEW diabetes test could make it easier for people living in remote areas of the country to get tested, a recent study shows.

The HbA1c diabetes diagnostic test, avoiding the need to fast which current glucose tests require, was approved last year for use in Australia.

Researchers at the University of Western Australia studied 255 indigenous Australians in the remote Kimberley with the test.

The study showed people were more likely to get results within a week.
