Don't wait to nominate a caring worker

THE CLOSING date for the 2012 Community Sector Ball Award nominations has been extended until October 26, so if you know of someone who works in a community service organisation on the North Coast of NSW who deserves to be recognised for their dedication to making the world a better place to live in, nominate them now. This year, a new award - The Northern Star's People's Choice - Volunteer of the Year Award, will allow the community to vote for a volunteer nominated in the Above and Beyond the Call of Duty award category.

These volunteers help thousands of people every day and receive little recognition for their work in providing care and support for many people in our community who face hardship and this is the one time of year we can thank and reward organisations and individuals for their vital contributions.

Rosanna has designs on female taboo

Artist Rosanna Pimm uses 3500 porcelain tampons to created her large scale performance installation Riots of Passage in The Quad as part of The Lismore Women's Festival on International Women's Day. Laying down and de-constructing the mandala structure symbolises the impermanence of the menstrual cycle and an end to female inequality in the world.
