Donate to fight Labor: Greens

THE Leader of the Greens has appealed to its voter base to donate to fight the Labor Party as the war of words between the two parties heats up.

In the past two federal elections, the two parties traded preference in the upper and lower houses, and the Greens were instrumental in securing Labor minority government after the 2010 election.

But long-held divisions between the parties were brought to a head this week, with various senior Labor Party figures this week labelled the Greens loopy, extremists and likened the left-wing party to Pauline Hanson's One Nation.

Greens leader Senator Christine Milne on Thursday sent an emailed appeal titled "We're Under Attack" to the party's voter base asking members to donate to the party's fighting fund.

"It's no coincidence that Labor's aggressive tactics have ramped up in the crucial last days of the by-election campaign for the state seat of Melbourne," she wrote.

Senator Milne wrote that a Greens candidate was on track to win the Victorian state seat, and the Greens wanted to publish advertisements to respond to "Labor's aggressive tactics".
