AUSTRALIAN duo Sharleen Stratton and Anabelle Smith combined to beat Great Britain. They couldn't beat China though.
The Aussies finished fifth overall in the eight-team final of the women's synchronised 3m springboard with a score of 304.95 from their five dives - a long way behind the Chinese pair of Wu Minxia and He Zi (346.20).
The United States (321.90) won silver, while Canadian Emily Heymans created history by becoming the first female diver to win a medal at four consecutive Olympics when she combined with Jennifer Abel to secure bronze (316.80).
Great Britain (285.60) finished seventh.
Despite finishing without a medal, Beijing Olympian Stratton said the pair was happy.
"We were definitely hoping for a medal, but just getting out there in front of that crowd was a good feeling," she said. "We are really happy with how we dived.
"Our synchronicity was good, but we just had a bit of adrenalin and went over in that last dive."
Stratton will now contest the 3m springboard event, while Smith's first Olympic campaign is over.
