Dirty power deals do nothing

The coal industry has reaped immense financial rewards for providing us with dirty power for years.

We now know, or have been permitted to know, that burning coal is contributing in a major way to climate change. I would think it is a major financial responsibility of the coal industry to now compensate the community for their negative environmental impact.

Unfortunately, the Krudd government is presenting itself as the great champion of climate change action while rewarding the coal industry with massive financial compensation. My understanding is that after years of making billions of dollars from a filthy practice that is destroying the planet we, the Australian people, say thank you by giving the coal industry billions more dollars as part of the ETS. To compound this situation, instead of investing heavily in real renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and geothermal, we are perpetuating the “clean coal” myth. Coal will never be clean and pursuing an unrealistic, unproven technology only prevents us from focusing on real solutions.
