Defence leaves mark on Storm star

EVERYONE in rugby league circles is talking about how potent the Rabbitohs are in attack, with unstoppable fullback Greg Inglis proving harder to contain every weekend.

But it is their defence, under former Storm assistant Michael Maguire, which has impressed Melbourne back-rower Kevin Proctor leading up to Saturday night's qualifying final between the two teams at AAMI Park.

"'Madge' has been awesome - he's brought more structure to their team where they're wrestling well and controlling the ruck," he said.

Along with Maguire and Inglis, the Rabbitohs have benefited from the influences of former Storm stars Michael Crocker and Matt King.

"Souths have a bit of a Storm feel about them at the moment," Melbourne fullback Billy Slater said. "Greg's a damaging player. But he's got a lot of teammates - Sam Burgess and Dave Taylor on the edges will be running quite hard."

With Slater back in form after a long layoff due to a posterior cruciate ligament injury, the winner of the fullback battle could decide this clash.
