Debs dress to impress for LADS
There’s not many opportunities to dress up in evening gowns for a night out in Lismore, which is one of the reasons so many young women love attending the Southern Cross LADS annual debutante ball.
As well as being an important fundraiser to help get a young driver education facility up and running in Lismore, it’s a chance for any girls turning 16 in 2010 (or older) to seriously dress up, probably for the first time in their lives.
Jessie New – the daughter of LADS vice-president Ann New and sister of the late Corey New, who died tragically in a car accident in 2006 – made her debut at the ball last year and is going again as a maid of honour in 2010. So, did she have fun?
“Did I ever!” Jessie said. “I did it last year because it was for LADS but now I know that it’s a great night out with all your friends. It was great fun coming and trying on the dresses, doing the etiquette classes and learning to be a ‘real lady’.”
Ann New said dance classes start in March in preparation for the debutante ball, which will be held on May 8 at the Lismore Workers Club.
Michael Gates from Lismore Bridal has a huge selection of debutante dresses and suits ready for young women and men to choose from, so now is the time to sign up.
