Cyber car yard helping motorists buy and sell

AN EXPERIENCED Bundaberg salesman has taken the hassle out of buying and selling cars through his one-stop shop cyber car yard.

Alex Seaward has been in the car industry for the past 22 years and has just launched his online business, Buying and Selling 4 U.

"I had enough of sitting in a caryard and felt like I needed a change," he said.

After first contemplating leaving the motoring industry entirely, a unique business concept sprung to mind.

"I was pondering over a bottle of wine and I came up with the concept," he said.

Instead of potential car buyers and sellers having to spend hours visiting car yards, the passionate salesman has brought the car yard to them.

His business is similar to other online car sales sites, such as Car Sales, but the difference is Mr Seaward does the selling completely on the owner's behalf.

"Rather than people listing their cars and going through all the drama, I do all the running around for you," he said.

"I'll list anything with wheels - boats, caravans, as well as cars."

The site has been live for two weeks and has already received 530 hits - about 37 hits each day.

"For the first week, I listed 26 vehicles and sold two," he said.

"It's gone really well."

Mr Seaward said he first focused on customers in the Bundaberg and Hervey Bay area, but was now organising listings for people as far south as Melbourne and as north as Townsville.

He said his business was quite unique to the Wide Bay area.

"There are other (car) brokers out there but no one seems to have the website set up," he said.

"You find a lot of brokers do more buying for people rather than selling."

Mr Seaward said his services went beyond just finding or selling a car, to being able to link clients to other businesses for warranties and finance.

"Insurance will come into it as well - I'm in the middle of negotiating," he said.

Advertising to buy or sell costs about $100, which includes a full online listing for as long as it takes the client to buy or sell, as well as one advertisement in the Guardian weekly community paper.

Mr Seaward said there was commission charged following the sale of the car, which varied depending on the car's value, but was capped at $500.

The commission on a purchased car is about $250.

"If I don't sell (or buy) the vehicle, you don't pay me anything," he said.
