For ten years the Nimbin Poetry World Cup has brought world class performance poetry into the gladatorial arena of the Nimbin School of Arts.

This year's tenth anniversary edition is anticipated to be the biggest yet.

Poets from all over Australia will be sharpening their tongues and flexing their wits to impress last year's champion Doubting Thomas, who returns as judge.

They'll be battling for the irony-spattered Poetry World Cup and $2000 first prize, the $500 People's Choice Award and encouragement awards - a grand total of $5000 in prize money.

First bouts will run from 10am Saturday, August 4, with the semi-finals beginning from 12 pm on Sunday 5.

The Grand Final is on Sunday evening at 7.30 pm and costs $15/10, but the rest of the weekend is free.
