Cultural art makes a cultural life

Balund-a is a residential diversionary program of the Community Offenders Services in Tabulam for young men. The facility operates as a farming and beef cattle property. Its aim is to reduce re-offending with residents being given the opportunity of a second chance working closely with Tabulam Elders and training programs.

Ace North Coast has worked at Balund-a since 2007 where it offers a certificate in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Art – a course that has proven very popular with residents offering a way for residents to express the importance of culture in their lives.

The inspiring results can be seen in an exhibition at 3 Rivers Aboriginal Art Gallery in Magellan Street, Lismore, called Balund-a Deadly Arts.

The exhibition opens this Friday, April 9, at 1pm.

Everyone is welcome.
