Man taped woman to fish tank while high on meth

HIGH on crystal meth, Garret Teale Waldron pushed his girlfriend to the ground and wrapped duck tape around her mouth, hands and feet.

Ignoring her desperate pleas, he dragged her to a fish tank and taped her to it before fleeing.

Somehow, she managed to cut herself loose with a screwdriver and escape to a neighbour's house.

Waldron fronted the Rockhampton Magistrates Court yesterday and pleaded guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm, deprivation of liberty, possessing explosives and possessing a rifle on November 17 last year.

Police attended the Kawana residence where the offence occurred and conducted a search.

The court heard they found a container of explosives on the bench.

Waldron also directed police to a drain on Dawson Rd, where they found a 0.22 calibre rifle.

Solicitor Doug Winning said the case was "somewhat unusual".

He said the complainant had made threats to his client, who was affected by drugs, earlier that day.

He told the court Waldron had not contacted her since and had lost his job as a result of the offence.

Waldron was sentenced to one month jail, suspended for 12 months.

He was ordered to serve 12 months probation and fined $600.
