Crowds thunderstruck by Aussies

CROWDS at the London 2012 Aquatics Centre were treated to some classic Australian rock at today's synchronised swimming Free Routine Final when the Aussie team performed to AC/DC.

Aussies in the crowd, including Steve Waugh, John Eales and the Opals players, clapped along as Thunderstruck took over the pool while the team put in a strong performance recording a combined score of 154.930.

While today's score wasn't what the team had hoped finishing eighth, this is only the third time Australia has fielded a team in synchronised swimming and the girls were happy with how they worked together and their overall performance.

For dual Olympian Eloise Amberger, it wasn't the score she wanted to go out on- confirming that London would be her last Games. But she was very pleased with how her fellow team mates performed in front on an electric crowd.

"That crowd! We've never competed in front of a crowd that big. It's so great to have so many people here to support us.

"I was disappointed to have my last swim, last competition with that score. But I know that our team gave it their best," she said.

When asked about the motivation for the AC/DC anthems for their routine, she said: "It was an idea we all spoke about. We wanted something classically Australian and with a very strong beat."

Russia successfully defended their gold medal taking out the synchronized teams title with a combined score of 197.030, with China taking silver (194.010) and Spain clinched the bronze (193.12).
