A BOOZE-FUELLED catfight over a man left one woman bruised and bloodied and another in trouble with the law.
It was a jealous rage that led Hervey Bay's Rachael Lee Gilmour to punch her victim in the face, grab her by the throat and elbow her in the mouth, splitting her lip.
The attack happened in March 2009 but Gilmour was only yesterday punished, in the Hervey Bay District Court, for the assault.
The 23-year-old's shame about her drunken behaviour three years ago was evident when she sat in the dock and wiped away tears.
The court heard Gilmour had been drinking heavily before she attacked victim Kara Spence at a party in Urangan.
Under the mistaken impression Ms Spence was involved with her boyfriend, Gilmour grabbed the other woman between the legs and warned that she'd better not catch her "flashing her crotch" at the man in question.
Gilmour went on to punch Ms Spence and grab her by the throat; at one point Gilmour's sister and son entered the area.
"I can't believe you are doing this in front of your two-year-old son," one of the bystanders told Gilmour.
Gilmour again grabbed Ms Spence by the crotch and continued to punch her in the face. She also kicked her in the back.
Ms Spence was recovering from a broken back at the time, so she was concerned Gilmour's attack was going to inflict serious harm.
When her victim turned to leave, Gilmour pursued her and elbowed her in the mouth.
Eventually Gilmour was restrained and thrown out of the house.
Ms Spence, who also landed punches on Gilmour, was left with cuts and swelling to her lip, facial abrasions and her earring had been ripped out.
The court heard Gilmour had become addicted to amphetamines when she was 18, but had recently spent time in rehab.
She was now trying to stay clean and reconnect with her two kids, with whom she had no contact.
Judge Hugh Botting told Gilmour he hoped she could stay off the drugs for her own sake.
He sentenced her to 12 months probation and did not record a conviction.
