Cracker of a proposal ends in wedding bells

A TOOWOOMBA man set his girlfriend's world alight by proposing with a fireworks display on their four-year anniversary.

Sam Thompson, 20, and Ashleigh Jones, 21, have wasted no time in preparing their special day and will say their 'I dos' at Preston Peak Wines on Sunday, June 7.

The young couple became friends in Year 5 but it wasn't until high school that their love blossomed.

Mr Thompson is the definition of a true romantic.

After months of planning he got down on one knee while Bruno Mars' song Marry You was playing and fireworks were exploding in the background and asked his girlfriend to marry him.

It seems Mr Thompson thought of everything, even having a photographer capture the special moment.

The night started with a candle-lit dinner at Preston Peak Wines but Miss Jones said she did not suspect anything because she was used to being spoilt by Mr Thompson.

"He has always been a romantic, I am very lucky that he treats me like a princess," Miss Jones said.

"I started sobbing when the fireworks went off, it was just perfect.

"I didn't know how to react. I was just in shock.

"It was a spectacular night and it makes a spectacular story," she said.

To add to the new chapter in their lives the young couple has just purchased their own home.

Miss Jones is excited for the future and said the pair kept their relationship alive by spending quality one-on-one time together.

"On weekends we enjoy spending time alone together," Miss Jones said.

"We go on dates or have movie nights. I think that is the key to a happy relationship.

"It has definitely worked for us," she said.
