AS Santa and his elves prepare to deliver millions of packages on his grand sleigh, local couriers are also milling about on some very similar journeys.
Over at Fastway Couriers in Goonellabah, everyone is hard at work to make sure all the packages get delivered before the big day.
Regional Franchisee of Fastway Couriers, Rod Lawson, said it's becoming a bigger and bigger job each year as the popularity of online shopping increases.
More and more he is delivering packages that have been bought online, and during this time of year, when presents and seasonal necessities alike are being bought, there are an abundance of online-purchased packages coming his way.
While December is a naturally busy time of year, he said in the past few years the work has increased visibly due to the increases in online shopping.
Mr Barrett said while he would consider the Northern Rivers area a mellow area compared to Sydney or Melbourne, the area is pumping out a lot of work for the couriers.
He is even receiving parcels through retailers that were not even around last year, Mr Lawson said.
Mr Lawson said they've been receiving and couriering a semi-trailer truck load a day since August, and they believe that will increase in the next two weeks.
So with nine couriers working out of their Goonellabah depot, and another three from Grafton, they're all busy little bees this month.
However they won't be caught out - they do have other trucks they can call in to help if need be, he said.
While at the moment they're doing all they can in the effort to make sure everyone has a Merry Christmas, Mr Lawson admitted he'll be relieved when the peak is over.
"We'll all be pleased to see Boxing Day," he said.
