Couple told to trim 10m bamboo that screens out neighbour

A HOUSE in Brisbane's western suburbs, built out of 31 shipping containers, was admired for its style and innovation when it featured on TV series Grand Designs Australia in 2014.

But neighbours hated the three-level glass-sided "container house'' towering over their property, robbing them of privacy, and so planted a screen of bamboo and palms along the fence line, the Courier Mail reports.

Current owners of the Jaora St, Graceville house, who paid $1.4 million for it in 2014, claimed the bamboo, that grew up to 10m high, blocked views from their second level lounge.

Michael Ortlipp and Beth Burgess took their neighbours to Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal, claiming the trees interfered with use and enjoyment of their family home.
