College star Chris Coyle set to touchdown for Brumbies
FORMER American college gridiron star Chris Coyle is set to join the ACT Brumbies next month.
Cut from the Houston Texans roster last year after sustaining a shoulder injury, Coyle (pictured) is preparing to move to Canberra after taking advantage of a relationship between the Brumbies and his former college Arizona State.
The 24-year-old told the Arizona Republic his NFL career was not "closed for good". But he added "it seems like my best opportunity is in rugby and I can't wait to get to Australia".
Coyle played 40 games over four seasons for the Sun Devils, tying for fourth on the team's all-time list of touchdowns, and fifth for receiving yards by a tight end.
Asked to compare gridiron to rugby, Coyle said: "There's not a defined play like in (American) football. It flows like soccer. It's a ton of fun, such an active game, and anybody can get the ball at any moment. And when I'm on defence, I get to tackle again."
