Coast mum's company named finalist in business competition

A Sunshine Coast company has made it to the final round of a Motivating Mums award recognising innovation among mothers in business.

Sunshine Coast brand Sinchies Reusable Pouches is now in the running to win the Brilliant Biz Mum Awards Best Innovative Product category.

Acknowledging the skill of entrepreneurship and the balancing act it takes to run a successful business with kids, the Brilliant Biz Mum Awards conducted by Motivating Mum celebrates the best of mums in business right across Australia.

Sinchies owner Sam Spunner said she was delighted her eco-friendly, easy to use and mess-free invention was among three finalists selected nationally.

"It's exciting to be recognised at a national level as one of Australia's leading mums in businesses, especially amongst so many other leading businesses," she said.

"This is only the beginning for Sinchies - I can't wait to see what the future holds."

Ms Spunner had the idea for Sinchies while running her family daycare from home.

"It was the time when the squeezy yoghurt pouches were fairly new to the market," she said.

"Kids loved them and so did parents. They were quick, easy, not messy and made it possible for kids to feed themselves giving them a sense of independence.

"But one little girl in particular, who was allergic to dairy, used to cry every day that she couldn't be the same as the others, and it broke my heart.

"So one day, I syringed her dairy-free yoghurt into a makeshift pouch replica, and that's when it hit me. Why wasn't there a reusable pouch that parents could buy to fill with their own homemade goodness?"

As the first reusable pouch in Australia, Sinchies took the market by storm, growing a large, loyal following of fans by word of mouth alone.

Before long Ms Spunner had businesses knocking on her door to order her pouches and in no time Sinchies was being distributed globally. Founder of Motivating Mum, Alli Price has been impressed by the quality of nominees in this year's awards.

"The Brilliant Biz Mum Awards attracted over 300 nominations and a very high caliber of entries," she said.

"The judges have found it extremely hard whittling the entries down to just three for each category. With awards judged on merit, finalists can be assured they are the very best that the mum in business industry has to offer."

Winners will be announced on Saturday the 9th May 2015 at the award ceremony held in Melbourne.
