Coast businesses strut on the world stage

SUNSHINE Coast businesses are taking the region's produce to the world at a major food and hospitality trade show in Hong Kong.

Industry suppliers Cotton Tree Trading, macadamia nut suppliers Nutworks and low-fat cuisine experts Symply Too Good are presenting from a Queensland Government booth at HOFEX.

The biennial food and beverage trade show attracts more than 40,000 buyers from Hong Kong, China and north-east Asian markets.

Avocado and fresh fruit marketing cooperative Sunfresh Marketing has its own booth while Maroochydore-based business trainers AusPac Business Advantage are attending on a consultancy basis.

Queensland Treasurer Curtis Pitt said the Coast businesses were part of the first trade mission under the new Queensland Trade and Investment Strategy 2017-2022, which was launched last month.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for delegates on this mission to showcase Queensland's outstanding processed food, seafood, functional food, wine and beverage products to key importers, buyers, supermarkets and food servicing companies in a region which simply can't get enough of what our state has to offer," Mr Pitt said.

"Queensland has a reputation for producing a range of premium food and beverages in a clean, green and safe environment which is why demand for our products continues to grow, particularly in Asia."

Delegates from 23 Queensland companies are participating in the mission, which runs until Friday.

Representatives from Nutworks and Cotton Tree Trading are then scheduled to continue on to Taiwan to explore further business opportunities where they will meet with prospective buyers ranging from food importers, food distribution companies to supermarket buyers.
