Chiefs trio on the bench

CHIEFS coach Dave Rennie has put his neck on the line by dropping All Black openside flanker Sam Cane and wingers Asaeli Tikoirotuma and Tim Nanai-Williams to the bench ahead of tonight's crucial match against the Hurricanes.

Needing a bonus-point win to stay top of the Super Rugby table, Rennie said the changes were about building depth ahead of the play-offs, and also generating competition in the squad.

"We've made a lot of changes, but we're creating a bit of an edge as well," Rennie said. "We've got guys who are getting an opportunity who are desperate to be out there and are pushing for a place in the semifinals."

Tanerau Latimer will start at openside flanker, Robbie Robinson moves from full-back to wing, Andrew Horell from centre to full-back and Lelia Masaga comes onto the wing.
